May 10, 2002 - 9:15 p.m. Madam, your evergreen has all the local porn stars aroused….. Yeah, it’s Friday. Nothing much to write about that involves old Roadiepig today. The day started with only 15 of the 24 full time employees at work. The rest had used vacation time, or were at home sick (yeah, right). By the time I went home at 4, there was only 8 vehicles left in the lot. Everyone else had bailed out by then, lured by the clear, blue sky and their overgrown lawns in need of mowing. Since the forecast is for heavy rain again tomorrow and Sunday (enough already!), today might be the only chance to get caught up for the next few days. Codeman’s baseball game tomorrow is a 2-hour drive away. PLEASE let it rain by daylight, so we don’t have to drive all that way for nothing! Yeah, that’s selfish. So shoot me. I know what will happen if we loose the first game. It involves my son gathering splinters on the bench. Only one week left in the regular season. Then, the playoffs, which are loose once and your team goes home. After that happens (or we win the state championship-not likely), no baseball until next February. For the first time since Codeman was 3 (!), he won’t be playing any form of summer baseball. He is at the age where his choices are few. He is too young for the adult league (must be 18, he is 17). Park-level ball is non-existent for 17-year-olds. And the local senior American Legion team is already filled. So, plenty of time for camping, fishing, and making the best garden I can, due to the extra time to devote to these pursuits. Just got off of the phone with my friend and beer-making hobbyist, Zackal. He read about my first taste of my home-brew yesterday. He reminded me that all the books on the subject tell you that you can try one after a week, but for the best beer you need to wait for two weeks. So, I just drank some unfinished product, not the real thing. He recommended that I wait until next Wednesday (the two week point), and then put all of the beer into the refrigerator. Next Saturday night, we will tap one of the two liter bottles, hoping for the best. We will have a 12 pack of some decent lager on hand, just in case it is still skunky….. Oh yeah, the title of this ‘journal’ entry. The evergreens. I saw a news brief on this subject today at lunch. Seems that the ‘fine, upstanding members of the community’ in Santa Cruz, California are all excited about the topiary shrubs in Gillian Greensites front yard. It has aroused the interest of local police, too, but they said there is nothing against the law in what they have done. Here is the photo. You decide: Is this obscenity, or just a happy hedge…
Gillian is pretty good with the hedge trimmer, if you ask me. If you want to read the article, click on this link. I know I probably just violated a bunch of copyright laws, but I wanted to pass this story along. Sometimes, you just have to overcome the rules, and rise to the occasion. This piece of art quite upstanding, and I wanted to spread the information all around. Sorry about that……… Hope ya’all have a great weekend. If time allows, I will post some photos tomorrow…………
