What I said yesterday? About the new technology, and how management was doing a good job using it? Uh...nevermind

Yes, I spoke (wrote?) too soon.

All of the new gizmos and do-dads are only as smart as the people using them.

Yesterday, I wrote about how the State was implementing all of the various new electronic sensors and computer programs to project the arrival time of an incoming snow down pretty well.

Tonight? They blew it.

About 3 pm, somebody in London noticed an area of snow on the Doppler radar. It was headed in our direction, and covered an area 4 county wide and tall. It looked like it would drop an inch or so of snow in a short period of time.

One problem, though- nothing was hitting the ground in the areas the snow had moved through.

Not a flake.

Using the in-ground sensor system, we checked all of the locations that the storm had passed through. All were reporting clear. All had recorded no precipitation in the past 24 hours. And all had relative humidity levels in the 40% to 50% range.

It isnt likely that any snow would fall in those conditions. Anything that is showing up as snow on the radar would be evaporated before it hit the ground, in that dry air.

Didnt matter, though.

London wanted us to keep 3 drivers over past quiting time. This was to cover the North, South, and West.

Just in case.

I was West.

Nothing happened.

I was home by 6.

Low on budget money, all of that technology at our beck and call, and stillwe wasted our time.

Oh well.at least I wont be at the top of the overtime callout list next week.
