Friday, Apr. 11, 2003 - 10:21 p.m.

No time for a real entry, so this will be the speed-writing version of our day

Lease and I drove to Springpatch today.

We ate lunch at a very nice, family owned (since 1946 the sign at the door read) Italian restaurant for lunch.

Linguini in clam sauce for me (with tons of clams and a garlic-white wine sauce that was as good as I have ever tasted), some kinda tube-type pasta in red sauce for Lease (she loved the red sauce).

We will eat there again in the future.

We walked around the historic sites in downtown Springpatch for an hour or so. I shot tons of photos, but I dont have time to edit or post them at this time (well, one later in this entry, but thats it). Maybe tomorrow, after Codemans double-header.

We stumbled upon a great world market in our wanderings. I picked up a copy of the local free weekly newspaper and bought some cookies from Italy (I sense a pattern to our day here), some candy from Denmark, and a 20-ounce diet Pepsi from America at this shop.

After this walking tour, we drove across town to the local K-mart. This is one of the bankruptcy closings from the latest round of store amputations to this once-major discounter.

They have three days until they shut down. They might as well do it now. They had nothing but small stacks of garbage left to pedal to the bored public that was milling around the isles.

We bought nothing, and were out of there in 10 minutes flat.

Lease wanted to hit the Springpatch Gordmans location, so we headed in that direction.

A sign in front of the local produce stand/butcher/garden center caught our eyes as we drove by:

Gerbera Daises 3 for $12!)

Had to check that out.

Lease bought one bright pink and one pale yellow Gerbera in large, 6 pots. These plants have 4 or 5 blooms open on each of them, with another 10 or so in the wait. Great buy, in my book.

I also picked up a bundle of fresh asparagus ($1.50 a pound! Asparagus is in season, if you have missed it!), a nice head of cauliflower for $1, and a bunch of green onions (.33 cents)

Damn, I miss having a real produce market here in Mohall. We are stuck buying our fresh veggies and fruit form the local mega-grocery stores, or from street corner vendors in the warmer months.

If you live in a metropolitan area large enough to have a real farmers market in it, consider yourself lucky.

Why do you think I grow so much of my produce myself?

At 4 pm., we made it just in time to Codemans baseball game against Springpatch high.

He didnt play at all. Not even D.H. He coached 1st base, and took that job seriously. I made sure to wave like a moron, every time he looked our direction in the stands.

Dads are good for that.

They lost 6-3, but it wasnt really that close.

Codemans friend K.B. hit a towering home run in the 6th to make the score respectable, but that was the only highlight for Mac. I even caught the swing he hit the home run on with the digital. Lucky shot, but I got it anyway.

The played the coach used as the d.h. instead of Codeman struck out twice, and then reached 1st base on a bloop single. Same on-base percentage, but Im sure the coach is thrilled in his production.

Tomorrow is another one of those Saturday double headers. When we played this team last spring, Codeman didnt get in either game.

Looks like another long Saturday for the Roadiepig household
