Its Mohall Celebration time again.plus, no p.o.w.s again today

Tonight is the first day of the annual Mohall Celebration.

Yeah, I know- whoo hoo.

Hey, were not New York or Chicago. Anything that even resembles entertainment is something to look forward to here in the stix (aka Bumfuck, USA).

There isnt as many former big-name entertainers appearing this year as in years past. I dont know if that is a sign of money problems for this non-profit event, or if there are just less old-timers on the touring circuit in a down economy.

That said, there is one band I have been looking forward to seeing this year: The Outfield.

Yes, the British power-pop band that had several hits in the mid to late 80s are appearing on the main stage on Sunday night. We will probably watch both of their sets, and find time between to catch some other acts on the other stages.

What is that? You say you dont remember The Outfield?

Click here, to read all about them.

They also havetheir own website, but there isnt much there about their past. There is one short mp3 clip of a new song, but thats about it.

Their biggest hits came from their debut album, Play Deep. Released in 1985, it contained the songs you remember if you were alive at the time.

Your Love was their biggest hit, reaching #6 on the Billboard pop/rock chart and getting heavy rotation on MTV (remember when MTV WAS music television? I know- MTV2 does it now, but it doesnt have the effect on pop culture that the original MTV did back in the 80s).

San-D better make it up to Mohall for their show. She told me last winter that they were one of her favorite bands when she was in her late teens. Not often that you can see an act that you grew up loving at such a nice setting. Free, too. That is, as long as you dont spend a bunch of money on beer and fried food, but thats hard to do at a street festival.

Anyway..

The rest of the Mohall Celebration is slim pickins, large stage-wise. I think we might spend a little more time than usual, checking out the smaller stages for good local and regional acts. There are a few of our already-favorites playing on these stages, and a couple more that are intriguing enough to warrant at least a quick stop to give them a listen.

Ray Parker Jr. tonight.

Who you gonna call?

Thats not fair- he played as a studio musician on over 100 artists albums through the years, and was a guitarist for Motown in the 70s. Hell, he even played guitar on albums by Stevie Wonder and Barry White.

Or so my local paper said today.

Here is more on his long career

Like I said- all of the bands are free.

Ill even watch some country bands (Asleep at the Wheel on Sunday), at that price.

The tree rats won another round today.

The trap was closed , but there wasnt a furry rodent inside of it. The corn was half eaten, too. I dont know how they manage to do that without being caught. Smart buggers, they are.

Only 8 partially eaten peaches on the ground today.

I guess the corn filled them up?

Trap is reset. Tomorrow, I will be home in the morning. If it gets tripped again without a tree rat inside, I will be there to see how they manage the feat. Might be able to catch more than one, if they come by in the morning.

Yeah, thats real likely
