The Outfield were in top form, the return of Mohalls Original Gangsta, and a new member of the Roadiepig household?Yeah- busy 24 hours.

First things first- we ended up adopting the puppy with the broken leg from Codemans workplace.

Didnt plan on it. Wanted to wait for a Pit Bull mix, or maybe a dog with at least boxer.

But in our marriage, we have never chosen our dogs. They have always managed to find us by themselves.

Muffy was our first dog. She was cocker, poodle. We brought her home from the pound on the last day she had left on the clock. Picked her out at 4 pm. She would have been put down at 5. She ended up being a great friend for over 9 years.

Hogan joined our household shortly after Muffy. He was a full-blooded Shih-Tzu whose owners were moving to a retirement community that didnt allow pets. They casually mentioned that they were just having him put to sleep, rather than sending him to the pound.

We took him home that night. He lived for another 5 years, even though he was near double figures age-wise when he moved in with us.

Roadie, the namesake of this page, was a cocker-docker I found playing alongside of a local highway one day at work. She was maybe 2 months old, and had been dumped there by some lowlife. The vet figured it was because she would have ruined the breeders bloodlines (whether they were breeding Cocker Spaniels or Dachshunds), so they just dumped here. She would have been roadkill in no time if we hadnt stopped to pick her up.

Sprout was a stud dog for a puppy farm that was raided by the local humane society. He didnt even have a name- he was only known by his number. Im sure that the breeders had him registered with a real name with the AKC, but their records were so poor they couldnt figure out which dog he was. He lived his first 2 years or so in the basement of a shithole house, only one overhead light, and spent most of his day inside of a small cage. The first time the humane society people brought him outside and set him down, he flattened himself to the ground. He had never seen the light of day before that moment. He has lived with us for about 10 years.

Tony I have written much about before. Bred to be a super fighting dog by some scumbag here in town, he is half Pit Bull and half American Pointer. The breeder thought he would end up being a extra-large Pit. He ended up looking like that, but is a big softy at heart. When he was hit by a car and drug for about 50 feet underneath the frame, the owner brought him to Codemans animal clinic. When told that they would have to amputate the back leg (they ended up saving it), the original owner said, He aint no good to me know. You can kill him, I dont want him anymore.

Codeman and my sister convinced the young vet that they would help in the process of rehabilitation if the vet would do the surgery to save him., It took almost a year to bring him to full health. He is still scared to death of me at times, but his been a good protector to our household.

And now, this male dog- meet Jay:

Originally named Raef by Codeman (after Raef LaFrentz of the NBAs Dallas Mavericks), renamed to Jay by me. Jay, as in Jay Williams, the guard for the Chicago Bulls. This dog and Jay both had their legs broken in accidents in the same week. Jay the ballplayer wrecked his motorcycle. Jay the dog came up lame at the vets kennel where he was being held, pending his siblings and his move to the animal adoption center in the mall that employees Codeman. After rebuilding his back leg and nursing him back to health, the adoption center wasnt sure they wanted him adopted by anyone who wouldnt do the follow-up vet visits and extra care he would need.

Thats when the full-court press kicked in (to use a basketball term). My sister and Codeman have been on us to add this dog to our home for the last 2 months.

We finally gave in. He fits the profile of a Roadiepig household dog. He needs to be house trained (Joy!), and has more vet work down the road.

He seems like he will fit in. He hasnt figured out steps yet, and you would have laughed like us, watching him try to walk up and down the steep hill our back (he almost rolled down to the bottom the first tiem he headed downhill). Sprout isnt real happy with another big dog to get into his face, but he will remain the alpha male.

One last shot:

Oh yeah- what kind of dog is he?

One half Chow. That we are sure of. The other dog was Boxer, Labrador retriever.

That makes him a Labrador-Boxer-Chow, or LBC for short.

So Lease sorta gets her boxer. Not exactly what she wanted, but if he becomes the protector we think he will, she will have a friend for life.

The Drug Dealing Neighbor is home from the penitentiary.

Yes, this is way too early. The States prisoner web site said his first eligibility for parole wasnt until 2007!

All we can figure is that he decided to turn States evidence against his big boss. For that, they let him out early.

If so, bullets should be flying here any day now.

Something to look forward too, I guess.

Not enough time to tell yall about the great concerts we saw yesterday. The Outfield rocked (we watched all of their two sets, and I got some good photos from stage right), and so did Mark Farner (the former leader of Grand Funk- kids, ask your grandparents about this old band).

I guess I will have to save the photos and story for tomorrow. I go back to work then, so my usual dull life will be back in full swing. Better save the story to fill an entry then..
