On our way to a grade school basketball game? What is going on around here?plus- a gardening update in the middle of winter? And a top Five list (copyright protected), passed on for you to read..

Yeah, tonight we are watching nephew Glens grade school basketball team play a basketball game.

Parenthesis used, because it wont much resemble the real thing.

Hey, we try to check out what our young relatives do for their schools, so this one is on our agenda. Might be entertaining. Not for the level of play, but entertaining none the less.

Yes, the camera is going with me. The light ought to be so low; using a flash will be a necessity.

Hopefully, I wont blind any of the youngsters while they are shooting the ball.

I dug up a few leeks from the garden at work today. Since the low was 12 last night, I thought they might be ruined.

The defrosted in the Hillbilly truck all afternoon, leaving the cab smelling sweetly onion-y. They are also still edible, and should end up in eggs and maybe a chicken dish over the next few days.

I left a few things in the ground way past usual this fall, just to see what would survive. The leeks have shown they can take a hard freeze (I figured they would). The snow peas are completely shriveled up and dead. I still have carrots in the ground. They are covered by about 6 of leaves, and should be fine until next spring if I want them to be.

The broccoli has formed several small side shoots, but I doubt they grow any larger this winter. I could harvest all of the upper stalks, peel them, and then steam them for a side dish. Since they formed in the colder months, they are probably very tender and sweet.

The last of the Brussels sprouts are still hanging on, looking slightly worse for wear. I didnt harvest any of the heirloom purple variety, mainly because they formed such small sprouts (about the size of the last knuckle on up of your pinky to the size of the same joint on up of your thumb, to use a strange comparable). I picked one today (still partially frozen) and ate it. It was very good.

Maybe I will have to harvest the tiny purple buds after all. Might be enough for a meal or two on the 5 plants that grew this summer and fall.

This ends todays Farm Report.

Ill leave you with the following. I cropped it out of todays The Top Five, but I left the copyright information at the bottom (to avoid another nasty lawsuit):

I just cant believe MTV or VH1 havent already thought of #20 or #12. They do have A Kid Rock Christmas on this weekends programming, though.

And if NBC or Bravo dont have #7 on next Christmas, I will be very surprised.

2 to 4 of the white, fluffy stuff is in the forecast for tomorrow.

If you are near the snow, please remember to slow down. You dont want to end up mounted on the tailgate hitch of a snowplow, do you?
