What the Hell was that? These teams played their games this weekend like they thought they were the Bears

Brett, Brett, Brett.. take the sack! Dont just throw it up for grabs on your first play in overtime!

The Packers shouldnt have been in overtime anyway. Not scoring on the 4th down and inches to goal at the end of the first half was 7 points not captured (or 3, if they had decided to kick a filed goal instead of going on 4th down).

Sorry, but this was a game that Green Bay should have won. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, as I once heard it described.

The playoff football games this weekend were a second-guessers dream.

1. The Lambs had it first and 10 on the Panther 17 yard line with about a minute to go in their game yesterday. Down by 3, they had plenty of time to take a shot or two at the end zone, and the win. But their coach, who is a genius (just ask him- he will gladly tell you this information) just let the clock tick down to a few seconds, kicked the field goal, and happily went into overtime.

They played one overtime with neither team scoring. On the first play of the second overtime, Steve Smith, a wide receiver for the Panthers, caught a pass over the middle and ran untouched for the winning touchdown.

Lambs loose. And all is well at Casa Roadiepig (home of North Dakotas #1 Lambs hater, yours truly)

2.Tennessee at New England, less than 3 minutes to go in the game. The Titans, down by 3, have a 2nd and 3 at the Patriot 33 yard line. They are in field goal range. Two penalties later (intentional grounding and holding), they now have a 2nd and 23. They end up turning the ball over on downs. New England kills the clock, and win.

Bet the offensive coordinator for the Titans whished he had ran on 2nd and 3, dont you? Instead, he got greedy, the blocking broke down, and Steve McNair (the Titans qb) had to throw the ball away, causing the intentional grounding penalty.

Game over.

3. One more call in the Packers game that really came back to haunt Mike Sherman , the Green Bay coach. Two, actually.

Facing a 4th and less than a yard once again, ball on the Eagle 46. The Packers send the offence on the field. Instead of running a play, Farve tries to draw the defense offside. After about 5 seconds of barking out signals, they figure out what he was doing, and didnt fall for the ruse. The Packers take the delay of game penalty, punt the ball into the end zone. The net 26 yards on the punt (terrible), and one the first play the Eagles pick up 22 yards on a run, putting the ball on their own 42(even worse).

Bet the Packers wished they had tried running the 4th down play at this point. If they had ran a play and gotten the first down, they would have been able to run out the clock. They would have won the game. Instead, they allow the Eagles to drive close enough to kick the game tying field goal, sending the game to the aforementioned ugly overtime.

Yes, its easy to sit in the Lazy-Boy and be the head coach of your own living room.

Still , that dont make any of the decisions by the highly paid coaches described above any less stupid, does it?

No, I didnt spend the whole weekend watching football. I only watched parts of the Lambs loss yesterday (I was sure they would tear the Panthers apart, and turned the game on when I found out they were behind by a bunch of points, only to watch them tie it up and go to overtime. Oh well- at least it had a happy ending.). I worked outside today from about 11:30 until 2, cleaning my back yard. Between the dogs tearing up the Boston ivy attached to the side of our garage (what reached the ground, anyway), the branches that had fallen from the Evil Black Walnut Tree From Hell! in high winds in the last few months, and other ignored tasks (what was I typing about? Oh yeah, my back yard), I really needed to straighten things up.

I also covered our patio furniture set (green cast iron table and chairs) with a tarp and tie downs. I have been meaning to do this for a few winters now, but never got around to buying said tarp and tie downs until last weekend.

Why cover a rustproof patio set?

Because it becomes a very nice porta-potty for all of the birds I feed all winter. Since it is located rather close to the feeder, they use it for a resting spot between feeding trips, and shit on it in such a way that would make big city pigeons blush.

It washes off easily, but that isnt always something you can do in our North Dakota winter weather.

They will probably just crap on the tarp, now that the chairs are covered up completely.

My slippers are really starting to creep me out (click here, if you didn't read yesterday's entry).

Today, they no longer appear to be smiling at me. Now, they have taken on a much more sinister apperance.......
