A typical weekend at Casa Roadiepig.well, not really

I guess you can say we had a typical weekend here at our two-story colonial in Mohall.

Went to Wallyworld on Saturday. Havent done that for a couple of weeks, so we needed to stock up on a few staples.

Watched a ton of college basketball. This is the weekend before the big NCAA tournament, so that means all of the division 1 basketball conferences had their championship tourneys.

I cant remember how many games I watched all or part of the past 4 days. Too many to recall.

Along with several of the other conference playoffs, I watched many of the Big Ten tourney games (for obvious reason). The Illini played great until this afternoon, where they decided to stink up the Conseco Fieldhouse against the Wisconsin Badgers. They were never in the game, falling behind 8-3 early and never getting closer than 13 points in the second half.

They played so poorly; I never even lost my temper once. Well, I did get a little sick of Billy Packers(CBS color guy, former coach from way back) analysis of the game. He compared the game as being as bad as a first round conference tourney game against the #1 seed and the last place team (no, not at all like that old man- just one team being really hot and the other too tentative for a big game. Illinois did win 12 straight games after their last loss, and had beat the same Wisconsin team by 8 just a month ago), and even said he didnt think the Illini could bounce back next week, after such a horrible defeat today.

Fuck you, old man.

Wait- was that too harsh? Excuse me, but.

The color guy on a sports telecast is there to add his insight on how the game is playing out in front of him, not to slam a team he doesnt like. This isnt the first time he has done this to my team this year, but today was the worst example of his prejudice so far. He even spent the last couple of minutes commenting on how this Wisconsin team was the Big Ten Champion, after this big win.

Wrong. They were the Big Ten conference post-season tournament champions. They won 3 games in 3 days; the Illini won 2 out of 3.

The regular season (16 games) champion was my Illini, with a 12-4 record. The Badgers ended up 11-5. That means the folks from Wisconsin ended up in second place, not the champions of the Big Ten conference. They split their two meetings in the regular season, and today Wisconsin played much better than Illinois.

Thats just one game. Not a full season.

Next week, the REAL tournament starts. The Illini are a 5 seed. The Badgers are a 6. Only one other Big Ten team made the post season, Michigan State (a 7 seed). In the past, as many as 7 teams have made the big dance from this conference. Having only 3 selected (even in a down year) is a major insult, in my opinion.

Hell, more teams FROM Illinois (the Illini, Southern Illinois, University of Illinois in Chicago, and DePaul) made the NCAA playoffs than teams from the Big Ten conference! That, I can assure you, has NEVER happened before.

So the folks who do the bracketing dont think much of the Big Ten this year. Big deal. They still have to play the games.

In another week, Ill let you know how they did, and if they were really as bad as the selection committee thought they were.

I gave all three dogs a badly needed bath today. I washed Jay-dog back in February, but the other two havent been in the tub since Christmastime.

So yes, they were all getting a bit stinky. You wouldnt believe how much dirt ran off in the rinse water on each dog.

Sproutman is so small, giving him a bath is no big deal. I can even dry him off with a hand towel. With his male pattern baldness, there isnt much to hold water on him anymore.

Tony Bonehead, even though he is very large, doesnt have much fur on his frame. I can drag most of it off of him using my hands, before applying a towel to what remains.

Jay-dog? Now he is a different story.

He has an undercoat common on cold-region dogs (the Chow in him, I guess) that just holds any water that falls on him. I try to remove as much water from his hide as possible before I put a towel on him, but it doesnt do much good. I always have to use two big bath towels just to dry him a little, and I then put him into his cave (cage) for another 60 minutes or so, to let him air dry before he is allowed to roam freely in the house.

He just keeps growing, too. I have no idea how big he will end up, but his is still less than a year old. My sister told me that large breed dogs will continue to grow for 24 months.

If he gets much bigger, one of us will have to find another place to sleep at night. Even though we have a California King-sized bed, it isnt big enough for the three of us.

Oh yeah, one more thing- we bought a Pontiac Vibe yesterday.

Actually, a Vibe to be named later, since they didnt have one in stock the color we wanted, with the options we decided we needed (Lease chose Arctic White, with charcoal protective panels on the lower side of the body. With the Moons and Tunes package, including a power moon roof and 6-disc cd player, and the full power package including power locks, doors, and remote lock release)

Nothing even close on the lot, so they have to find one from another dealer's stock and bring it to Mohall.

We drove a red Vibe all day yesterday( doing the Wallyworld run, and about 50 miles of interstate driving, and a couple of other errands, too). We had to see if it fit our needs, before dropping the many dimes it would set us back upon purchasing.

It did, and with plenty of power and room to spare.

You know I mentioned that we havent had a car payment in 15 months?

I was wrong.

They showed us the paperwork from our last purchase (our 98 Grand Am), and the date of purchase was 12-27-1997. With a 4 year loan, that means we had it paid of in December of 2001, not 2002.

So we were able to get 6 great years out of the Grand Am, and were able to drive it for over two years without any payments (another reason why I wanted to buy another Pontiac, when the time came).

With Lease having to carpool to Springpatch now, I wanted her to have a dependable car (still under warranty) for the remaining 3 years of her employment at this job.

That should work out just about right..
