Concerts

You want it to rain? Just use the time-honored method I used yesterday- drag your garden hose out, and hand water all of the transplants in your garden. By daybreak of the next day, at least a half of an inch of rain will fall.

This was the first real rain we have had in about 2 weeks.

We needed it

Been way too busy trying to get everything planted, so I havent taken the time to write about the two concerts Codeman and I went to last week.

So, here is the short breakdown:

Great shows.

The V Shape Mind farewell show on Thursday was a lot better than I expected. Having 3 local bands on the bill could have meant 3 hours of wading through bad music , waiting on the headliners.

The opening act was a group of high school aged kids, trying to be Linkin Park. Not doing a very good job of it, too.

But after that, the remaining bands all put on tight, enjoyable, and LOUD shows. The middle acts both have recorded albums, so we are not talking Bob and His Garage bands.

The band Novaseason was the one that impressed me the most. They are all graduates of the local musical university (yes, thats what it is known for), and play a style of hard rock I can get into. They were selling pre-release copies of their cd for $1 (yeah, a buck!). If you go to their website, you can listen to a few of their songs.

V-Shape mind played their hearts out, knowing that this would be the last show they played before breaking up. All of the members are from this area, so it was also sort of a homecoming.

I wasnt crazy about their album when it came out, but they were very good live.

Its a shame they didnt make it. But such is the music industry in 2004

Saturday nights Aerosmith / Cheap Trick show was unbelievable. For a bunch of 50+ year old rockers, they can still kick it live.

The only complaint I had was the length of Cheap Tricks set. Since they are not co-headliners, the boys from Rockford Illinois play as the opening act. That means a short 45 minute set.

Since I have never seen Aerosmith live (hard to believe, yes), I didnt mind. They played for just over 2 hours, covering not only their radio-friendly 90s and newer hits, but many of the songs that I grew up loving from the 70s.

State of the art lighting and sound system, multi-level stage- all added to the show.

I didnt even need the earplugs for this show. We werent located too close to the speakers, and the sound was loud without passing the pain threshold.

All in all, a great weekend of music for yours truly.
