What is an "Adewale Ogunleye"? If you dont follow football (American style) you probably dont knowplus- a recap of the concert we watched last night (almost all good- youll see)

First off- the concert last night was a blast. Even the one hour performance by Michael McDonald was enjoyable. As much as I hate what he did to the Doobie Brothers 9once he joined and remade the band), he live show was great.

Hall and Oates?

They played for over an hour (The Average White band also performed for 45 minutes), and even remade several of their (overplayed) radio hits into songs that sounded totally different and new.

The three bands (minus a couple of members of the AWB) returned to the stage after Hall and Oates set, and proceeded to play another 30 minutes or so of combined vocal/musical performances of each bands biggest hits.

What does that mean?

Well.how about Darryl Hall singing the vocals to What a Fool Believes? Or McDonald belting out the lead to Out of Time?

The whole show (including the breakdown and set up of instruments for each band) lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Best $20 per person we have spent in a long time.

That said.

Ticketmaster is the (continuing) scum of the earth.

Like I need to tell you that.

Not only did they pocket the $6 worth of con-venience fees they took from us for the show that was canceled in another venue (for the other "Rock and Soul Revue" show that was to be early in September, be canceled after the State fair show was added to their schedule).

That wasnt enough for them.

No, they had the location of the stage for this show totally off.

How so, you ask?

Well..

They had a diagram of the seating for the fairgrounds that showed section C as being front and center for the stage.

One problem- Section C is about, oh, 7 full (1000 seat) sections away from the stage.

What did this mean to Lease and I?

Nothing, except the fact that we would have been the ONLY IDIOTS IN THE GRANDSTANDS SITTING IN SECTION C!

WE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONLY PEOPLE SEATED ANYWHERE BETWEEN THE STAGE AND SECTIONS A AND D, AS FAR AS THAT GOES!

There were a ton of great seats unfilled closer to the center. So many, we could have picked our favorite area and plopped our assed down about anywhere (even thought there was at least 10,000 people in the building, Ticketmaster managed to leave large sections here and there unsold. I blame Ticketmaster, mainly because they have fucked up our concert going experiences for the last couple of years at a regular rate. They must have fucked up the selling of tickets for this one, too)

Did we sit in our premium seats?

Not for a second.

We were there early enough to scout the area out. We noticed that the area in front of each seating area included a spot for folks in wheelchairs, along with a few comfortable plastic chairs for their friends to sit near them.

No, we didnt take the seats from an handicapped person. As a matter of fact- the first time someone rolled up in a wheelchair, we moved out of our plastic chairs so that they and their friends could see the stage from where we were sitting.

Lease and I then moved about 2 sections closer to the stage, in another handicapped section where nobody else was watching the show.

This was about 200 feet closer to the stage then Ticketmaster had placed us in their best available seating.

Lease told me to send an email to Ticketmaster, complaining about the goofy seating chart they posted on the Website. Maybe that would get them to correct their mistakes for the next people who look for tickets on their Website.

I might, but I have the strong suspicion that the computer that receives my email will just laugh at my missive, and add me to their fuck as often as possible list in the future.

The question at the start of this entry?

What is an Adewale Ogunleye?

He just might be the one piece of the puzzle that my Chicago Bears needed to be a competitive team this fall and winter.

He is the reigning sack leader from the AFL. He had 15 solo sacks of the quarterback last season. My pitiful Bears had a grand total of 18 sacs as a team last year!

The Bears did give up one of my recent favorite Chicago players in the deal (Marty Booker, a sure-handed wide receiver who played hard for the last 5 years for pathetic teams, so hard that he made the Pro bowl 3 times).

I hope Marty enjoys Miami. The winters there are much nicer there than in Chicago, from what I hear.

I also figure I have over 2 weeks to learn the proper way to pronounce Adewale Ogunleyes name. I wanna be able to say it right, when talking around the water coller at work ("Can you believe Adewale Ogunleye had three sacks in the game Sunday? What a steal he has turned out to be, eh?")

I just hope he continues wrecking havoc on opposing teams offences, the way he did his first 3 years in the NFL.

If he does (and the rest of the Bears team continues to improve the way it has this preseason)?

I might have a fall (and hopefully-winter) worth remembering this year, football-wise.
