A LONG entry, A couple of photos and linksplus- what DID I buy?

What did I buy? (echo...echo...echo)

I wont say until it is safely here at Casa Roadiepig. I have to drive to Joe D. Mechanics house Saturday to pick it up( an hour or so from Mohall, but he drives this to go to work every day, so I can handle it). Codeman will be going with me to help carry it up from his basement (yes, it is heavy- no, I wont put undue stress on Codemans ankle.)

I have always wanted to buy on of these things. First decied that back when I was around 14 years old. I have had several chances to drop some cash on one through the years, but never wanted to part with the money.

Joe D. wanted to get this one out of his basement. His wife wants to do a little rearranging down there, so he was willing to part with it. I let him set the price (he bought it from a neighbor several years ago), and he threw me a very low number.

But he told me that he had bought it for far less than that, knowing it was worth a lot more at the time.

So

I get something I have always wanted to own. He has the seed money to do the work on the basement his wife wants to do.

A win-win, in my book.

What is this item?

If you actually know me personally, I bet you already know.

If you know me from here, you will just have to guess

Since everyone needs to wear a costume to my nieces wedding on Halloween, this has caused some consternation here in our house.

Not for me- I figure since I am actually one of the help (taking the photographs), I have a built-in cop out for not wearing a "serious" costume.

I decided a while back that I would make an effort anyway. No long robe or anything- I do have to be able to move around quickly if I want to capture candid shots.

I bought two things for my outfit- a pair of Groucho Marx glasses (complete with bushy eyebrows), and a rock star wig (think Slash from GunsnRoses).

To that, I will add my orange This Is My Costume t-shirt.

Thats about as dressed up as I can get. Im not the Halloween type, I am afraid.

Lease has purchased two costumes from the local paper Warehouse. One has already been returned; the other will go back sometime this weekend. She didnt like they way either looked on her.

She is keeping the long blonde starlet wig she bought, though. Might be able to work that into any other outfit she comes up with. If not? I think she might still have an idea for it

I found this website today. They have photographs of some of the crappiest pre-made kids costumes ever made.

But this one caught my eye:

Yes, it is from the 1970s ABC show, Welcome Back Kotter. This was made for the sad child who decided that Gabe Kaplan was the star of the show, not the Sweathogs.

The author of the web page did have one thing right, though. Ditch the plastic shirt, and just wear the mask.

Go nude, too. That way, you too can be Ron Jeremy

A couple of photos that popped up on The IRC Images website recently.

Yes, I finally linked the site. Just make sure you read the disclaimer BEFORE you proceed to view the bizarre mixture that ends up being captured by their WebCrawler.

Trust me- plenty of disgusting porn (as opposed to the,Um- good porn! variety) is mixed in with someones high score desktop to Tomb Raider 6.

I skip over (most) of that, looking for quality stuff.

Or at least something that cracks me up

Like this one:

Yeah, I know- probably just the name of a village in Norway or something.

But- what if its not? Maybe Karen just wants SOMEONE to finally find it for her enjoyment .

Then there are photographs that make me wonder why I even bother using my cameras:

I really tried to get this effect on the shots I took on vacation. Saw streams and even one waterfall that I knew could end up looking this way on .jpg (we used to say film, right?)

I tried several different exposure settings, but nothing turned out even close to this.

I sent the photographer an email last week, telling him how much I liked this shot.

He hasnt responded. Must have thought my email was SPAM.

This one? I just like the play of color and darkness, showing shorebirds (some kind of crane?) resting in the shallows in Florida:

Pretty cool.

I just wish I could take pictures that capture your eyes like these do

Lease had 2 more use them or loose them vacation days, so we are off for another 4 day weekend.

The weather is supposed to be shit, so I think fishing (at least together) is not in the plans.

What are we planning on doing?

Maybe a movie (in an actual theater!) tomorrow. "Friday Nigth lights" was a great book I once read, and the critics seem to like the movie.

Picking up my purchase Saturday, while Lease helps her sister and niece decorate for the wedding (I, since I have both the X and Y chromosome, do not have to decorate. Thankfully).

After that?

No idea.

I know one thing, though- going to work is absolutely not in either of our plans until next Tuesday.

Cool.
