A quick Roadiepig Viewpoint on world news (sure to piss someone off)

Yasser Arafat died a couple of days ago.

Boo.

Hoo.

I watched the helicopter carrying his coffin land in his Ramallah compound before I went to work this morning, and I was reminded why he was such a piece of utter complete human garbage- the throngs of men (no women, of course- Allah doesnt think much of the female half of the human race, dont cha know?) shooting rifles into the air (watch out! That bullet has to come down somewhere!), hanging from the edge of rooftops and from power lines (really! You had to see it to believe it!) so they could tell all their friends and family that they had seen (or even better yet- touched!) the wooden box containing the remains of the person most responsible for the last 30 years of suicide bombers and other mayhem in the middle east than any other person who has walked the earth.

I do not consider him a great man, regardless of what Jacque Chirac (the socialist leader of France) said about bowing at his bedside upon his death.

Arafat took the worlds money (United Nations or otherwise) for almost 40 years. Money that was supposed to be used to improve the lives of the displaced Palestinian people.

Instead, he used the funds to spread his form of terrorism, aimed at the people he swore to remove from his homeland (that would be the Jewish race, if you arent following me here) and from the face of the earth.

This article on the Boston globes website pretty well sums up what I have thought of this cretin for the last 30 years.

May everyone in that rock-strewn piece of geography be blessed with a new moderate leader of the P.L.O. (or whatever they decide to go by). That way, maybe, just maybe, the people forced to live there can have a future that doesnt include 15-year old girls, explosives strapped to their body, boarding busses early in the morning with their goal of killing as many non-Arab civilians as possible.

I know- Im supposed to write about gardening, catching White bass, and my grand-niece Riley here.

And I usually do, dont I?

But all of the praise I heard directed towards this man in the last 48 hours has just turned my stomach.

CNN spent that timeframe at each station break, showing still photographs of Arafat with solemn music playing in the background. Like he was some sort of hero for what he had accomplished in his lifetime.

Tell that to the families who lost relatives to the intifadas he financed and supported

On a lighter note (anything would be lighter after that rant)

My nephew Gus has his first junior high basketball game of the season tomorrow morning at 10 am.

I told him back in October (when we took him White Bass fishing-see how all this comes together?) that we would try to make it to some of his games. He contacted Codeman thru email earlier this week, asking if we could be there tomorrow.

Codeman has to work.

Lease and I dont.

So we will be there, bright and early, to watch his game tomorrow morning.

Better make sure the Minoltas batteries are charged
