Lost sleep, but mission(s) accomplished

This really bummed me out

The man who died in the wreck (described in the front page article linked above) is the son of the famously good hamburger place here in Mohall (he owned one of the locations), and was a fellow coach when Codeman played park baseball . We even co-coached the final team Codeman and his son played on back in 2001. He was a character in the best possible way- he came across as grouchy if you didnt really know him. But he just did that to keep people he didnt want to deal with at arms length (he learned that from his Dad, btw). We had a lot of fun coaching against each other through the years, and later sharing the same dugout with travel teams and that last high school park squad.

Hadnt talked much for a couple of years, but whenever we crossed paths we always had good conversations. Always saying we should get together for a cookout, or to drink a few beers. But like most things in "adult" life, we both were always too busy to actually do so.

And now he is dead. He was only 46 years old, too. He had even survived a heart attack 2 years ago, and had just recently fully recovered.

Life has a way of reminding you, every so often, that it can be a fragile thing.

Better to live each day like it is you last. Dont want to leave this planet with regrets; a life lived less than fully

We were able to enjoy our Christmas dinner before the wimpy snow started falling yesterday evening. I was called in around 7:45 pm as part of a partial crew. By the time midnight had rolled around, we had a full crew with hourlies.

The totally snowfall was less than an inch. But this was one of those annoying little snows that never stops falling, causing us to burn up a bunch of salt just keeping the roads from refreezing. I ended up dropping 2 loads, along with 80 gallons of brine, in the 10 hour shift.

We were out of the storage and on our way home by 6 am. Since today is the big after Christmas Sale!day, I only slept in for 4 hours. Lease and I threw ourselves together and hit the streets.

We bought most of what she wanted (wrapping paper, cards, bows, decorations) from the two chain drug stores located on the south side of town. These two businesses dont get the traffic that the others closer to the mall and Wallyworld do, so most everything we wanted was still available.

We managed to finish the rest of our shopping by 4 without wrecking the car or snapping at one of the idiots that constantly seemed to ram our carts.

Im ready to call it a day, and its only 6:13 pm. I imagine it will be lights out by 9.

And I will still be about 3 hours sleep deprived when I wake up tomorrow morning.

Such is life, being a highway maintainer

One last thing.

My brother in law really knows how to throw a party:

How many people do you know could get a celebrity like Chris Rock to stop by for turkey and sweet potato pie, so far from Hollywood?
