Pretty fucking funny? Plus- a typical state decision (dumb, in other words)

If you dont have a fucking sense of humor, you probably wont find this news article funny

Im guessing that if you can stand reading my writing, you HAVE to have a pretty good sense of humor, so go check the fucking story out

Speaking of having a sense of humor- it helps to have one if you work for the north Dakota DOT.

Government logic- gasoline (and diesel) costs have skyrocketed (like you need me to tell you that factoid).

Since much of what we do involves the burning of fossil fuels, our already strained budget is really taking a hit. Never mind the fact that North Dakota is one of the few states that adds a PERCENTAGE tax (not a flat per gallon fee) to each sale, which is bringing in a windfall of extra tax revenue.

We wont be seeing any of that extra money (even though the tax is legally supposed to go to maintain and repair roads- our present leader, LittleBigMan, hasnt let that stop him from continually raiding the coffers).

So

We have to cut back on our consumption, with the long cold winter months on the horizon.

What are we cutting back on, you might ask?

Not rock hauling- we (not I, btw- I had no say in this purchase) bought tons and tons of rock with last-minute spending at the end of June (end of fiscal 2005 year). We have to have all of it hauled from the quarry in short order.

Each truck hauling rock burns about 60 gallons of diesel a day. Multiply that by 5 (the number of tandems we have assigned to this task), and you can see where most of our diesel is being used.

No, the rock hauling will continue.

Instead, we are now scaling back on our ROW mowing.

Weeds on the shoulder, in other words.

One problem- we have two leased mowers that we are supposed to put 250 hours on this summer. If we turn them in without reaching that total, we dont get a rebate or anything.

We just end up paying more for each hour we use (instead of getting our full bang for the buck).

How much fuel does one of the lease tractors burn in a workday?

15 gallons, more or less. So you could conceivably run both lease tractors for 2 days with the fuel one tandem dump truck will be burning per day.

To sum this humorous story up:

Taxpayers are giving more of their money when they buy fuel, only to see it go to the general fund. Instead of mowed shoulders, they are getting rock.

Tons and tons (literally) of rock.

Isnt government swell ?

This Saturday , Codeman and I will be working (and Lease will be along with us) our last wedding of the year. Mooses (my coworker and fishing buddy from the county south of Mohall) daughter will be getting hitched in his back 40, close to his pond.

This one should be more relaxed than either of the two I did earlier this summer. She seems to be pretty laid back (which is what I expected, with Moose as her father ;) , and isnt making any elaborate requests of us (unlike the last few, all who had all kinds of this and that they wanted besides the basic stuff).

The bad news?

Lease and I are headed out on our vacation the next day. That means I wont be able to edit much at all before we leave, and I will have the editing on my mind while we are away.

She said she isnt in any hurry for the final results. I believe her, too.

Dont mean I wouldnt like to get part of the editing done on Sunday, though
