Community College theater. Mohall style.

The man on the right is (of course) our nephew-in-law Shawn. The local community college acting/theater is retiring after 25 years. As a tribute, people who have trained/acted under him over the years have put together a tribute show, containing bits and pieces from several of the productions he put together over the years.

Shawn was in several of his shows, so he is also in several scenes of this performance.

Like this one- from "Dr. Seuss in the Park" - The Lorax...

Shawn played the evil businessman, and the man on the left is the Lorax.

All about the evils of capitalism (thru Dr. Seuss's eyes, anyway).

Shawn was great in this role.

In this sketch, Nephew-in-law Shawn is playing the older sailor, teaching the younger sailor in some scene from a play by Shakespeare. Since I never went to college and was forced to study Shakespeare, I have no idea which play it is from.

Shawn had a very elaborate speech he had to give to the younger man, and even though he said he screwed it up, we thought he did a fine job getting through the old English of said speech.

One last shot from the Community College play:

Nephew-in-law Shawn, playing a southern Preacher giving a eulogy for a prominent businessman in a scene from the play "Greater Tuna".

This bit brought the biggest laughs of the evening. To summarize- the radio preacher, called upon to give the eulogy on short notice, falls back on twisting of trite sayings ("When the going got tough, he left"), while the church lady fell asleep , waiting on him to finish.

Very funny stuff. And Shawn did a fine job getting into the role, properly raising his voice at the proper times to bring the most laughs from the audience.

The play ran for about 2 hours (even thought the director said it should only go for about 1 1/2 hours- but who's counting, when it is the last play he will ever direct for the college, right?)

A very enjoyable evening, even if Shawn didn't think he did all that well.

We had a great time, anyway....
