The setting sun, shining through the ice coating the neighbor's trees. The high today was 38- most all of the ice has now melted. We almost lost our power last night (5 days after the ice storm). A guy wire for the cable company snapped around 2 am, falling onto one of the power company's feeder lines. This caused a major blue light show, with arcing flames shooting up and down the main power line and fireworks-worthy sound effects. RIGHT AT EYE LEVEL TO OUR BACK WINDOW FACING THE ALLEY! Talk about a major wake-up call. Soon, the guy wire heated up enough to send flames shooting from the two contact points on the power line. I just knew our power would go out. Somehow, it didn't. But... The three houses to the west of our next door neighbor's house all lost their power. The closest one had a minor electrical fire before their feed melted in two. The vinyl siding above their electric meter is melted and blackened. As of this moment, all three are still without power. The monopolistic power company that runs the local service has repeatedly stated to the press that all of the power will be restored by Friday, 2 days from now. No way in Hell that will happen. With wind speeds forecasted to be a steady 20mph, with gusts to 35 mph tomorrow, we will be lucky if many more lines drop again tomorrow. Wish us luck....
