If you were one of those people complaining about the warm winter we have been having....

It looks like you're gonna get what you've been waiting for.

Since the night of the ice storm, we have had a prolonged break from winter weather. So much so that some people (not me, of course) have complained about the unusually warm weather.

Well, it looks like those whiners are about to get their wish. The 5-day National Weather Service forecast reads like a nightmare- a chance of either rain, sleet, freezing rain, or snow in every half day forecast through Monday night.

The freezing rain part is what really worries me. We are only about 35% of the way done cleaning up the stacks of broken limbs and logs from the horrible damage the last storm visited upon us. We drive into work every morning with the glow of sparking embers from the 25' tall pile of ashes and hot coals built from the haul from the day before. When we leave, flames rise at least 20' from the top of that days burn pile fuel by the constant arrival of dump trucks, filled to their roofs with tree tops and trunks. There are around 300 trucks from every form of government still working in the county every day.

Smoke hangs over the storage every day that the wind is from the north or west. The burn area is just outside of the city limits (no burning allowed in town, even in this emergency). Our facility is right across the road to the south. On the rainy days the thick, acrid smoke from the green wood brings on coughing spells any time I leave the building.

There will be at least another 6 weeks of picking up and hauling.

That's if we don't have another ice storm this weekend.

Anyway....one last photo from the last storm. This one was taken at around 4 am, after the rain finally switch over to sleet and snow:

Too bad it didn't switch over earlier. We wouldn't be dealing with all of this hauling and burning right now....
