Mohall storages Wallomicrowaves

It started out normal enough- we all chipped in a few bucks to by a cheap Gold Star microwave (its the white one on the right) back in 1988. It worked well enough, but there was always a line of people, waiting to use it. Arguments sometimes broke out over who was next.

Lease and I bought a new microwave back around 1996, and I brought my old one to work (top right). That eased the congestion at lunchtime considerably.

Next, a coworkers mom bought a compact microwave to replace the beast on the bottom right. Since she was planning on putting it out for the garbage man, he hauled to work instead.

All three still worked, so we were in great shape. Things stayed that way until a few months ago.

It was time to replace our 1996 machine, mainly because the digital readout had died. The machine still cooked fine- you just had to be careful how you set the time, because there is no way to tell what you input after you do so(middle left).

Now we had four. People who visited the storage started making comments about the wall.

Another coworker found a microwave in the basement of the house he had moved into, and was going to throw it away until he mentioned it to me. I convinced him to add it to our collection (second from the top, right). It was coated inside with what appeared to be the remains of a nuked squirrel (kidding), so I had to disinfect it with industrial cleaners.

No, it has never been plugged in, let alone used, since its arrival.

My Dad replaced his old unit for Christmas this year(top left). Add one more to the stack.

A former coworker stopped by last week with his moms old (1979) Amana Radarange (the shiny one on the bottom left). The door on it opens just like a regular stove- I guess back then the folks at Amana didnt think consumers were ready for anything too different than what they already had in their kitchens.

In case youre wondering- no, they are not all plugged in. Three of the small ones are, along with the big one on the right. We had all three on the left running last week, and the circuit breaker kicked out.

Now this has just become a somewhat functional art project for me. I need to do something to steady up the right side- all that weight on those tiny rubber legs that microwaves have has made everything a little wobbly.

It makes a good conversation starter with visitors, so I dont plan on taking it down anytime soon.

And who knows- one or more of the old units might die on us someday. Might be glad we kept the squirrel cooker after all.

But I doubt it.
