"The Waiting is the Hardest Part" Tom Petty, 1981...

Waiting for the impending arrival of a major winter storm, that is.

We have been hearing about this one since Thursday, and it isn't supposed to really hit us until Monday afternoon.

And hit us upside the head with winter misery, too! We are smack-dab in the middle of the area where the forecasters are predicting 8" or more snow will fall, followed by winds up to 35 miles per hour.

That, folks , qualifies this storm as a potential blizzard.

The really messed up thing about this storm is the timing- all three weather services I use have it starting up at different times. One says a good chance of some snow after midnight tonight. Another says early afternoon Monday, and the third says the worst of it won't arrive until tomorrow evening.

We rotate shifts on Monday morning. Usually, that is. Tomorrow is President's Day, so even if we get to rotate, I will still be stuck as the first person called out, whenever it is (even though I picked up some time of most of my shift last week, which will move me down to the bottom of the call out list on Tuesday).

That also means I won't sleep worth a damn tonight. the phone could ring at any time, so i will be loading up the radar loops any time I wake up tonight.

Even worse, Lease's boss backed out on his commitment to setting up a terminal here in Mohall so that she could stay in town whenever a storm such as this was forcasted. She was able to work here one day during the ice storm last December, but someone else now sits in that cubicle. No other computers are setup for her, so she will have to make her usual 35 mile Interstate drive to work in the morning.

She has already put together an overnight bag, just in case the storm snows her in.
Am I happy about this development?

Do I even have to answer that question? We are close to getting ourselves into a very good spot, bill wise, in the next few months (no more mortgage, no more college bills). I don't want her driving that far to work everyday. Never did, and now that her carpool has fallen apart, I hate it even more.

Her company might change hands again in a few months (rumors). If they move some people back to Mohall, she will probably keep her job and be able to work here in town.

If not?

Lets just say I will be lobbying her hard to look for another option....

The "guys" table from last weekend's birthday celebration.

Left to right: brother-in-law Sam, yours truly, family friend R.T., nephew J-Rod, and brother-in-law Tyrone.

If you look closely at Tyrone's face, you will see where my nephew Glen gets his ideas for making funny faces( like he did this Christmas) in family photos....
