The mid-point of our home improvement project. I didn't take any pictures of the early work (ripping up old carpet, deciding that the hardwood floors under the old carpet was worth salvaging, pulling up tack strips and something like 10,000 staples by hand, chemically stripping the old varnish, then re-stripping to remove the old stain, and painting the kick boards and side trim with white paint). But this is where I was on this work , as of Saturday. The oak was bleached out to a natural color, waiting for me to apply the new stain. With the two large dogs living in this house, no varnish will be reapplied. They will just tear it back off, so natural wood (with maybe a coat of paste wax for water protection) is the way we are finishing this wood....
