Happy 184th day of the year!

Yes , its the 4th of July. The biggest blow-out party, bar-b-que, beer guzzling, fingers-blown-off day of the year.

I figure most people in America have better things to do than read my daily drivel, so I will keep this short.

If you live somewhere else in the world, please dont judge all Americans by the U.S.A! U.S.A! chanting bores that show up at every international event. Nor by the bombs our country always seems to be dropping on somebody with dark skin somewhere in the world.

For me, what has made this country the one that people the world over both envy and want to move to is this: No matter what faults you can find with our government (and, I admit there are plenty of things wrong there), people come here for the same reason the first persecuted English people did.

Freedom.

Freedom to worship whatever God you choose. Or not worship at all, if you dont want to. Some people here tend to forget that fact from time to time, but its still true.

Freedom to assemble. Whether its to celebrate a national holiday or to protest what you dont like about this country.

No, everythings not peaches and cream here. In some parts of the country, you can get pulled over for driving your car, simply because you have the wrong skin color. People are still persecuted because of the person they choose to love. The government treated the Native people here horribly, moving them off of THEIR land and herding them onto the reservations, where many are still living in poverty. Our forefathers allowed people to be bought and sold, for crise sake! That was indefensible. We continue to fight a war against our own people, simply because they want to smoke marijuana. High school baseball coaches can unfairly leave your son on the bench, even though you son is a better player than some of the ones that get to play every game.

Um, but I digress.

Enjoy your burnt hamburgers and cold beverages today. Give your kids a hug (even if they are bigger than you. They will appreciate it, anyway). Make a bunch of Oooohhh! and Aaahhhh! sounds when you watch the local fireworks display.

Happy 4th of July.
