Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 - 7:49 p.m. We went back to the hours we work for the non-summer months of the year today. That would be 7:30-4, instead of the 6:30-3 we have worked since mid-June. I stayed in bed 45 minutes later than I did on early hours. That might not seem like much extra sleep, but I could feel the difference this afternoon. I didn�t even need to drink my usual extra Coke�, for the caffeine to stay alert all afternoon�.. My free subscription to Comics.com expired about a month ago. I didn�t send them the $12.95 per year that they wanted to continue sending me daily emails of some of their syndicated cartoonist�s work. I continued to get the 12 or so every day for about 3 weeks, though. I think they were hoping that I would come around, and pay them for something that you can get free, just by making a few bookmarks and hitting their webpage every day. I didn�t. I just book marked my favorite strips, made a new folder titled �Cartoons!�, and went on from there. Now, every morning instead of reading the strips in my Inbox, I just have to load up Explorer�, hit the links, and I am good to go. Since they offer you one freebie (just like the local drug dealer, hoping to get you hooked on their product), I started receiving only the strip Rose is Rose. Not only is this �toon not one of my favorites, I don�t even know how I started receiving it in the first place. Musta hit the wrong circle on the subscribe page when I signed up, a long time ago. Anyway- to make a short story long�.. I already have Get Fuzzy! in my morning Chicago Trib, I didn�t make this (my favorite cartoon written today) my only pick. Instead, I made the single panel Rubes my one delivered-for-free cartoon If you read this one for any amount of time, you might come to the conclusion that the writer (Leigh Rubin) is a follower of the genius Gary Larson, and his badly missed �Far Side� work. That would be fair to say. But Rubin isn�t just a knock-off cartoonist, making a second rate version of the original. Even though animals (and plays on words and sayings involving animals) play a large part in the humor (like Larson�s work), the humor is as subversively funny as some of the original �toon. Not AS GOOD, mind you, but still good for a laugh almost every morning. Anyway��. I thought I would post this panel from last week. It cracks me up, every time I look at it. I have forwarded it to several people in my address book, and I thought I would share it with you here:

None the less, with what the recording industry did to 12-year-old MP3 music file downloaders last week, you can�t take these laws for granted.
