First harvest of the year, with photos...

Here is the base for a great meal- the shrimp were caught and processed in Florida (not grown and packed in some far off corner of the globe, with who knows what processing done to them).

The green in the photo are about equal part volunteer white onions (now only green onions) and baby garlic plants that came up in odd places in my work garden this spring. Since all were growing in areas that I planned on planting other things in the next few weeks, they really needed to go anyway.

The fact that they were fresh and tasty for my dinner tonight was a very nice added benefit.

The final product of tonight's cooking- Florida gulf shrimp in a mix of zucchini, red pepper, mushrooms, and freshly picked( from my work garden, and leftovers from last gardening season) green onions and baby garlic in a spicy (canned and home made) sauce.

Tasted just as good as it looks.

Maybe even better...

As far as the rest of the gardens goes?

I should have baby lettuce, radish, and bok choi to harvest in the next couple of weeks. My tomato and pepper bedding plants are about to the "set outside and harden off" stage. I have peat pots filled with cukes and melons that sprouted after only being potted up last Sunday (!), now on my back patio table.

No sub-freezing weather predicted for the next 15 days. That should take us past the frost-free period of North Dakota (only two later frosts in my gardening lifetime).

Spring is really here.

Yeah ;)

Speaking of Yeah

The Hippies (B.J. and Tyler) came in last tonight on CBSs The Amazing Race.

That sucks, because they are the most fun team on this years crew. I admire the couple that has been married for over 40 years (Barry and Fran?), and all of the remaining teams are cool, but

The Hippies crack me up. They have been at this for fun from the start, and managed to finish in the top 2 most of the season.

Last week, they barely slipped by in next to last.

Tonight, they were in first until B.J. couldnt find one of the 10 buried package of cooked lamb in 120 mounds of hot desert sand (youd have to have watched to understand that reference). Needle in a haystack, indeed.

But

This was the first non-elimination show of the year.

So

They come back next week with no money and just the clothes on their backs and their passports.

Dont put your money on them being eliminated- I expect them to find a way to make it to the finish line ahead of one of the other 4 teams , money or not.

Yes, I watch a reality show.

This is the only one.

Unless you include all of the sports I follow. Sports are the original reality TV programming, after all.

But being a life-long Chicago sports fan following endless losers( last years White Sox , M.J.s 1990s Bulls teams, and the 1985 Bears excluded), is more like being an unreality show fan, isnt it?
