Flowers, sprouting from the local terra firma....

Since a cold front (make that huge cold front) has now passed through our area, all of the flowers and fruit trees now blooming will have their blooms frozen in the next couple of days. That means no peaches, apricots ( my tree was LOADED this week), or nectarines for us this year. The spring bulbs will survive, but their blooms will likely shrivel and die.

This is what we get for having the recent 2+ weeks of obscenely warm weather. All of the spring blooming trees have behaved like they were on crack, going from dormant to full bloom to dropped petals in about 1/3rd of the normal amount of time. Mornings we have left for work with daffodils just opening up, only to come home to dried up, wilted blooms.

Damn global warming!

(remind me that I said that in a couple of days, when our highs are supposed to be as much as 25 below the normal for this time of year ;)

That said- I did snap a bunch of photos of the various blooms in our yard last Sunday. With nothing better to do than watch everything die around me the next few days, I imagine I'll be posting more of these shots in the days to come.

This one is really unusual- it is a dwarf tulip, and its blooms look like something out of "Little Shop of Horrors", not some gentile gardening catalog....
