I think the old Soviet Politburo would be very proud of these folks

Just read this, and tell me what this brings to mind for you:

The Supreme Commander discussed several of his successes over the past year and outlined many of the issues on which he and the State will focus in the upcoming year. Among those issues, the Supreme Commander outlined a bold agenda to reform Russias education system

Wait, there is one more:

01/15/04 The Supreme Commander outlines bold agenda during his State of the Soviet Union Address to reform Russias education system

Supreme Commander announces plans for new Soviet bureau of education, other forward-thinking initiatives to reform Education

Reads just like something out of the old Soviet Union, doesnt it?

But its not. It is the actual headlines on the State of North Dakotas home page today. Even though it appears to be written by former members of the old Soviet Politburo, it is actually the headlines of the press release sent out to news agencys by our governors press office.

I will admit, I did make the following changes:

1. In the first entry, substitute Governor of North Dakota for Supreme Commander, and North Dakota for Russia.

2.Again, in the second paragraph, substitute Governor of North Dakota for Supreme Commander, and North Dakota for Soviet Union.

And thats all. Every other word is exactly how the states news agency/politburo released it for public consumption.

We listened to this pathetic speech by our governor/megalomaniac (while we performed our assigned duties, of course) at work today.

The amazing amount of arrogance this man shows at every opportunity continues to shock me. He bragged about saving the taxpayers money by cutting unnecessary spending (re: cutting our budget by 12.4%, causing us to park trucks in need of repair), without mentioning that his new initiatives have cost the taxpayers of North Dakota over 1.2 Billion (as in B) dollars in the past 10 months alone.

He spent his entire State of the State speech complaining about our State Board of Education, explaining why we should eliminate the old board, and outlining how his office can run things much better than them. This, after introducing the president of the board of education to the assembly as my good friend.

How does that go? With friends like these?

No explanation of how he will solve our budget crisis. No ideas of how to keep more businesses from leaving the state.

Nope.

Just his ideas for a huge power grab for his office.

No more local school boards. He wants to set the curriculum for each and every school district. He, and he alone, can decide what books each school in the state will use to educate their students.

This is Socialism at its very worst. A central government, run by one (very) powerful individual, controlling both state run and private businesses.

After all- Socialism has only caused the death of 500 million people worldwide in the past 100 years.

Lets give it one more chance!

Makes me wanna puke..

BTW- this isnt the first time that a governor of North Dakota tried to take over the school system. Republican, Democrat, Satanist- it doesnt matter. They all want to take control of that huge pot of money and power.

In the past, the state assembly has always stopped this from happening.

But this time, both the Governor and the assembly are of the same (Socialist) party. So all bets are off.

One of his many proposals (aka unfunded mandates for local governmental bodies) he released today was the following:

All high school students, beginning with the class of 2007, would have to complete 40 hours of "voluntary" community service in order to receive their high school diploma.

No community service, no diploma.

Now you understand how the Socialists define voluntary.

I think I was taught that the word voluntary meant that you did it of your own free will. Voluntary didnt meant mandatory when I was in high school. And it didnt mean it here, until the Socialist took control of our state government.

Sorry to waste this much time on this (boring, if you dont live and suffer through this in North Dakota) subject.

I just cant believe the size of the gonads of the man who now runs this state.

And I cant believe that the state press office sends out news releases that would make most leaders of Communist countries blush.

And they do it at the taxpayers of North Dakotas expense, too.

All I can say is this:

I live in one fucked up state right now.
