Nothing original here today (yes, that makes quality of this entry much better than usual ;)

First, a couple of items from this weeks This is True:

DUMBEST CRIMINALS OF THE WEEK: Knox County, Ky., deputy jailer Clarence Wilson, 37, was given the task of transporting an inmate, Shawn Phillip Reynolds, 23, to a different jail, in Lewis County, in a marked vehicle equipped with lights and a siren. But halfway between, state troopers started getting calls from motorists who said a police vehicle was pulling over motorists, and the occupants were drunk. After stopping motorists "they would get them in the back of the cruiser, cut a deal for cash and let them go," said Knox County Judge-Executive Raymond Smith.Investigators say Wilson let Reynolds out of his handcuffs, and the two were in the front seat drinking while they went down the road. Wilson has been charged with drunk driving, impersonating a police officer, unlawful imprisonment and official misconduct. Reynolds was charged with alcohol intoxication. (AP) ..

My question is this: how did the Deputy jailer get his job? Must have the same form of government hiring in Kuntucky that we now have in North Dakota.

STAY BETWEEN THE LINES: A Good Samaritan in Regina, Sask., Canada, stopped to help a man who had slid his car off the road into a ditch. The driver asked to be pulled out, so the Samaritan said he'd return with a rope. When he got back minutes later, the car was gone -- but he found the driver sitting in a pickup truck on the other side of the road, where he had again slid into the ditch. Suspicious, the unnamed Samaritan called the police, who determined that both vehicles had been stolen. Keri Diamonde Poorman was sentenced to four months in jail for vehicle theft and driving under the influence. (Regina Leader-Post)

I can sorta relate to this one. Not the stolen vehicle part, but having a driver so drunk that they keep ending up in the ditch while trying to drive in the snow. I had more problems with this when I plowed a two lane south of town years ago. Might have had something to do with the 4 taverns located in the last couple of blocks in Mohall?

Plowing at night on a weekend day, it was nothing to have 3-4 cars and pickups far off the road during even a light snow. I tried to stop to check on the motorists when I could, and most of the time the driver and any passengers were too wasted to stand up. Those people I offered to call a tow truck for, but nothing else. I didnt want to help push them out, for fear they would drive down the road and hit another car.

Plus, they had enough alcohol in them to keep them from freezing solid anyway

Lease and I watched Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD last night.

I had read that it was a good movie, but considering the plot was based on a ride at Disney World, I didnt have very high hopes for it being that good.

Johnny Depp deserves whatever awards he gets nominated for his role. Yes, I know that he said he created his Captain Sparrow on Keith Richards (of the Rolling Stones, if you have been asleep for the past 50 years). Always appearing to be a little tipsy, wavering from side to side when giving his lines, he steals the show.

Just a well-made movie, with good battle scenes, a love story as a subplot, and plenty of laughs, too.

I recommend it, if you are looking for something to watch at the video store today

I will leave you with a couple of photos that were sent to me in my email today.

The first one shows you how cold it got on the east coast of America this week:

Now THATS cold!

The next one was from a series a sidewalk art photos. All of the sidewalks are flat (naturally), but the artist, using only chalk, is able to create three dimensional artwork that tricks you into believing you are looking down into a deep pit:

There are 5 of these photos in all, and they are much bigger than the one I posted above. All are amazing (IMHO), so I saved them. If anyone else wants to see them, , you know how to get them
