Wild cherry is gone (no, not the band with the 70s hit Play That Funky Music, White Boy, although they are gone, too)

Before:

If you look closely, you can see how twisted and contorted this tree (what was 3 trees growing in the same spot, to be completely accurate) actually was.

After fighting my chain saw for 20 minutes, I made a gas station run for fresh petrol (note- old burn pile should catch fire nicely in the near future, if a match finds its way into the brush). After that, the trees were down, chunked out, and the brush was loaded into the Hillbilly truck in about an hour and a half.

Heres the after view:

Dragging the small stuff (two wheelbarrows full of firewood-worthy pieces were salvaged, btw) to the truck was a chore! With all of the twists and turns the various branches had made, growing over the years, grabbing just one branch was impossible. I had to climb up into the bed of the Hillbilly truck several times to jump up and down on the mess. Nothing like a 250 pound human brush compactor to make the pile smaller.

Here, in all its glory, is my Hillbilly truck, loaded in a true Hillbilly fashion:

What kept the branches from flying out and decapitating any following motorist?

Two lengths of nylon rope, tied catty-corner in the bed.

Worked great. Nothing hit the road in the drive from here to Mikes house, about 3 miles west of Casa Roadiepig.

So now theres room for two of the Aronia berry bushes. I will have to move one of the tiny Christmas trees I threw into the ground back in December (shouldnt hurt it one bit), and the root system of the wild cherry trees will be another obstacle. Even so, the Aronia bushes should do just fine

Took the digital Rebel to N.P.P. Lake today. I caught a few decent bluegills (I wanted to keep my consecutive months catching fish streak going- now at 14 months), but that wasnt what I went there to accomplish.

Shooting a few deer, along with a few pheasants, and a stray Red Tailed hawk was what I hoped to do.

With the camera.

Not a gun.

Mission accomplished.

More on that over the next few days
