Looks like a New Orleans vacation might not happen for us anytime soon

Lease and I have always said that New Orleans is a place we have to visit someday. Since we always take our vacations around this time of year, though, hurricanes are always a threat.

Even though the authorities are saying the worst of Katrina missed The Big Easy, and Mississippi took the heaviest blows. If the following pictures (culled from other websites, with credits) are any example, things couldnt be much worse for those poor folks:

Sad

Lease is calling it a lateral move, but to me it sounds like a promotion.

The Cableco posted for a new position at her location a couple of weeks ago. The person who gets the new job would be in charge of quality assurance of the customer service staff.

In other words- their job is to listen to tapes of each employee doing their job (you know the tape recording at the start of your wait? You call could be recorded for quality assurance. Now, they will finally do this, instead of just recording them to protect the employees from false accusations and such).

Lease has been one of the top customer service people Cableco has had for the past 10 years. Thats not just me bragging on her- several of her taped calls have been put into what the corporation calls the Hall of Fame, and are used to train new employees.

She was a natural for the new position. So she applied for it.

After the interviews were over, and many days were spent wondering if someone else did a better job selling themselves, she found out Friday.

She got the job!

No raise right away (she is near top scale already), butno more having people call her every foul name in the book (people are SO BRAVE while talking to faceless women on the telephone!), and then having to still be polite to the fuckwad on the other end of the line.

Now, she will have to listen to how other people deal with that stress, and otherwise try to find ways to help them improve their job performance.

She doesnt start until her first day back from our vacation in mid-September. So she will still have to listen to the usual crap for a little more time.

She told me she is worried about how she will do in these uncharted waters.

I told her that I have no doubts she will do great. She is the perfect person for this job.

Its just amazing that the Cableco was able to figure it out, too

One last photo- one of my own.

Took the Canon with us to sister-in-law Angie and husband Tys cookout Saturday night. Once the sun set, I decided to play around with the manual setting, setting the f-stop to a stingy f11, and slowing the shutter down to 30 seconds to come up with this double image of our niece Shel:

Probably the toughest thing about making this shot was getting her to sit totally still for 15 seconds in each lawn chair. She is full of energy, and freezing yourself for that long isnt the easiest thing to do
